HI, I’M KEVA
I'm really just a girl who went to school to help others be the baddest in the land!
In a world where the real you may not have always been accepted, I remain curious about you. I am present, often modeling curiosity, empathy, and acceptance for whatever version of you shows up. I then assist you with deciding if that version works in your purposeful life.
The truth is, I’ve always been a curious observer. Like many of my clients, I have several intersecting identities of varying privilege. This has given me beneficial vantage points to explore, accept, and respectfully engage with diverse people and their equally diverse life paths.
For example, being an American-born child of immigrants and experiencing family, friends and community members alter their tone, word choice, pronunciation, and accent, depending on their audience was a regular “shape shifting” occurrence for me.
The deftness of the switch up was not only a meaningful transformation I’d come to appreciate but, also one of my formative lessons in skillfully applying genuine curiosity to support a connection with others. By asking about their communication choices, I learned the reasons for the communication variance often reflects themes of comfort, safety, privilege, and acceptance.
And the goal… well the goal was to be understood by others. In my years of practice, I’ve seen the value of being understood for many clients. Being understood could usher in being seen, acknowledged and accepted.
PERHAPS YOU’VE NOTICED THAT THE WAY YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF STEMS FROM A DESIRE TO BE SEEN OR INCLUDED.
The thing is, while standing out can be dope, it can also come with some drama. But, real talk?! So does blending in.
I’d like to help you discern what makes the most sense to you for how you show up, for how you accept yourself, your community, your history, your wins, your losses, or maybe, even, a new diagnosis; because it’s that important to your well-being, and I, actually, care.
MY PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND (IN A NUTSHELL):
I went to school, studied psychology, did scholarly things, earned degrees, worked in various settings (e.g. community mental health clinics, higher education, and a mental health start-up), and did creative advocacy work along the way, all while making my best efforts to show up authentically as me. Then, I decided to help others do the same. And…that’s it.
Oh wait, that’s actually not it!
Almost forgot - ALL this educational and professional training of mine was completed with undiagnosed ADHD. That’s right, from kindergarten through my Columbia awarded doctorate… no clue! Although, there’s always signs. Because I’m a part of the late diagnosis club, I have a special empathy for others who are now questioning, have learned about, or who have re-engaged with their diagnosis later in their adult life. I know the struggle has been real for you, the discoveries may still be coming, and the shift in thinking and acceptance may be still developing.
If you’ve sought me out for an ADHD related service, you’re in good hands, you can take advantage of my high interest, curiosity, knowledge base and honed empathetically grounded skills specifically working clinically with folks with ADHD from diagnosis to coaching.
